The lo-fi quality of ‘Soft Strings’ allows its introspective, emotive lyrics to take centre stage. Ohbones give one, gently strummed acoustic guitar the responsibility to accompany a variety of vocal layers, and it works perfectly. Dreamy vocalisations provide the low end, while densely reverberating lead vocals make every word sound like it’s slowly floating away. “We tried to make things better, but they're better left unsaid, we cobbled down our words on the road to where it led. We are tiny little pieces of puzzles we have made, most of them are missing, we're lost and we're afraid,” states the opening stanza. The words are presented more like a poem than a song, and they are able to take on even more meaning with the current worldwide situation. - Dan Peeke
